A few years ago, Simmler initiated the internal Energy 2020 project.  Its goal was to fully transition the production to renewable energy by 2020. Simmler achieved that goal in the summer of 2016, and its production now only uses renewable energy.

In 2015, a steam generation plant fuelled with wooden pellets was installed for this purpose.  The waste heat generated during the incineration, as well as the waste heat from various production processes, are used in a unique, end-to-end system for heating the facility and the required water. This allows Simmler to achieve an exemplary energy efficiency. It is a unique concept that will hopefully be copied by others.

By the way: With its steam generation plant and the use of renewable energy, Simmler has managed its CO2 emissions so much that it can offset the carbon footprint of nearly twice as many people as it has employees.
