100% renewable is possible!

Simmler receives the Georg Salvamoser Prize

100% from renewable energies. That is the central mission of the Georg Salvamoser Foundation. It is a goal that Simmler has pursued and achieved with great dedication – and now it has been awarded the Georg Salvamoser Prize for its efforts.

The Georg Salvamoser Prize is awarded by the city of Freiburg and the Georg Salvamoser Foundation. It is one of Germany’s most distinguished environmental prizes. In addition to the goal of only using renewable energies for production processes, the following criteria also play important roles:

  • the degree of innovation on the way to achieving that goal
  • the way in which a company’s dedication can set an example for others
  • the perseverance required for implementation.

Criteria that Simmler met convincingly and sustainably with its fruity products from the southern Black Forest.

The main energy sources at Simmler are electricity and steam. They offer the potential for a sustainable orientation, which the company recognised and implemented early on.  Simmler faced the challenge of reducing its energy demand throughout the company – from freezing to boiling – and to use renewable energies. It was a great success! Simmler’s production gets up to 100% of its energy from renewable sources and thereby manages to save 520,000kg of CO2. This means that the company creates a CO2 offset for 75 people, i.e. 1.5 times of its total staff!

No food producer in the industry has so far managed to switch its entire production to 100% renewable energies. This commitment requires a lot of personal conviction as well as perseverance and it makes Simmler’s holistic approach to the production of fruity spreads unique. The jury of the Georg Salvamoser Prize recognised this commitment in awarding its main prize of €10,000.
